100 Years Well Spent

There's an old saying that goes something like this, "The first 100 years of the spiritual journey is really just about getting over disappointment."

I thought it was kind of silly at first. Maybe they meant 100 years over lifetimes? Or they're just exaggerating to make a point.

But then I started to think about it, and really look at all the ways disappointment shows up. How debilitating it can be, and how it sets us up for more disappointed; a classic self-fulfilling prophecy.

Someone breaks their word.

Another one lies and cheats.

Failure.

Loss.

Big and small.

It's no wonder that so many people constantly expect to be disappointed.

It's all incredibly heavy, and I wonder, what's it doing to you in your life?

Do you set your expectations so low that you couldn't possibly be disappointed? Never asking for what you really want.

Or maybe you have high hopes, but you're always waiting for the other shoe to drop. Fearful.

Have you ever asked yourself, "What's on the other side of all that disappointment?"

Contentment. Gratitude. Happy surprises and bliss.

All of a sudden 100 years seems a little shorter, and the clock is ticking. But even if it did take 100 years- totally #worthit

Maybe I'm being naive, but I think we can walk free from disappointment a little more quickly.

What do you think?

Are you willing to take the journey?
